Paradise Reef
Paradise reef sits directly infront of the Hilton Waterfalls hotel so if you are staying at that hotel, you are lucky enough to have this as your house reef. There is no fixed mooring line here, so as a boat dive, it would need to be done as a drift. It is a little prone to stronger currents, so is perfect for gently gliding along with the flow. It also makes a great shore dive, as you still get the chance to see some great life out in the blue.
Like most of our dives here in Sharm, it is the fringing reef that we dive along. It comes out from the shore at about half a metre below the surface, but unlike other local sites we have a steep slope running from the surface down to around 18M from where you will find a steeper drop off down to depth. Along this diagonal slope you will find trees of coral jutting up from the sand. Because of the tendency for current, these pinnacles can be totally heaving with life. More than a couple of them are swarming with glassfish, and this is a dive where you really do need one eye on the reef and one in the blue, as from the deeper water you do get passers by, like the odd turtle, manta ray and this was one place where we were treated to whale sharks earlier this year.
In the summer months, we tend to eschew the reef here, and hang out in the blue, out from the drop off, where there is often a strong change of a passing manta ray or something else huge and spotty!
