Pinkys Wall

Pinky's Wall is a dive that I had never even dived until Spring 2008!!! It was given its name due to its wall covered in soft, pink coral, but this has sadly all but disappeared. I am not sure why, there are quite a few hotels along this area, some of which have been there for some time, so maybe damage was caused by reckless builders who didn't know any better.

Anyway, I digress. The dive site was pretty much ignored until last summer partly for this reason, but also it is not typical of a local dive site. The reason we dive local, as mentioned is to ensure nice gentle conditions, easing divers into things slowly. Pinky's wall, as you might imagine, is a bit more of a wall dive, so certainly not suitable for Open Water students and potentially challenging even for those who are on day one of their holiday.

After the summer of 2008 however, this has become a dive we do in Spring on the hunt for whale sharks, and manta rays. It is done as a drift dive, heading out into the blue almost straight away, for at least the first half of the dive in the hope that one of the big ocean travellers may pass us by and give us the dive of a lifetime. It is one of those instances where you have to be in it to win it, however nothing is ever guaranteed. If you get a sighting, then it is an awesome, jaw dropping experience. If not, then you get a bit of practice at diving in the blue and get to see lots of plankton. It is for this reason, that once the summer is over, we head back to the more normal local dive sites again.
